May projects and lessons learned

I really wanted to make the Honeymoon Cami. However, just reading the instructions for the twisted rib sent me running to the hills. I was not ready for that yet. Luckily, Julia (the designer) had a simpler pattern called Citrus Moon on her website. I opted to make it in a single color for simplicity. Her instructions are superb! I learned how to do increases/decreases and 3 needle bind-offs. The bind-off is difficult but it beats seaming the shoulders. I finished this project in time for my birthday. This tank gets a lot of wear around the house.

April projects and lessons learned

I started out with a sweater pattern for my daughter from Knitting in the Round but then ended up using my own gauge and just calculated # of stitches around for a better fit. I decided to omit the sleeves. So now she has a fuschia tank.

Lessons learned:
1. I learned to knit in the round. Yay!
2. I realized that my purls were done incorrectly. So from the point where I knit flat, it looks textured.
3. More important is that I realized how much I hate darning in threads - I do a poor job at it. Do I see some completion issues in the future?

I needed an instant gratification project after that tank. Something that I could finish in a day. I'm a slow knitter. I have to really pay attention to what I'm doing.

Next project is a teacup from the IK Fiesta Tea Set pattern. I learned a lot from this project - how to use dpns, kf/b, how to do an i-cord and i-cord bind-off. I also started out on a matching saucer but that is now considered a UFO (ha!). Of course, my sweet daughter wants me to make the full set. Yikes!

Hello fellow knitters!

I finally took the plunge and started my own blog to document my knitting experience.

I taught myself how to knit last March 2005 by purchasing a Learn to Knit scarf kit and borrowing some books from the local library. I learned the knit stitch but could not figure out the purl stitch from the diagrams. Finally, I broke down and attended a class at Michael's to have my knitting questions answered. I knitted a few headbands, 2 little bags and a poncho for my daughter. I knitted matching hats for son and hubby and couple of scarves for Mother's Day.



One of my officemates knits in the round. So I went and read some more on this topic. I think I'm ready to start with some projects.
